Ok here's whats goin on guys. I start my computer and it shows the initial black screen with some text. theres little white dots all over the screen and after a few seconds, my monitor says its tuning and then I can't go any further. Here's the interesting thing about this though.. sometimes it fixes itself and everything seems to work fine. This is what it is currently doing
Another thing it does sometimes is starts up past the windows screen and then goes black. this can be fixed by starting the computer in safe mode and then rebooting.
With either problem, it starts seemingly out of nowhere. My computer will be running and I'll be doing whatever, and all of a sudden the screen goes black and one of the two problems mentioned above begins to happen. Like I said sometimes it fixes itself but its getting rather annoying and this time, its not wanting to correct itself. As it stands right now, I can't even get far enough to hit F8 and bring up startup options. Does anybody have any idea what the heck is going on?! Thank you for your help guys.

Hi Drakkhen,
Welcome to GSF, I hope you enjoy your time here.
Can you please provide us with some more information? For example what Operating system you are running, if you have recently installed/removed any hardware, if you have recently installed any software.
Personally it sounds to me like a hardware issue with your graphics card, as I have had a similar problem myself in the past but, I would first like to know a little more.
Have a great day

Sounds to me you have bad sectors or ones that are failing on your harddrive where the system files are loading..you can try to fix them with software.
http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q=f...=fix+bad+sectorBut in the long run the drive should be replaced.

Hello Drakkhen
I agree with Hunter, sounds like a harddisk drive which will give up soon. When you run your computer can you hear any unusual sound when the system is generating traffic from the HDD?
If you want to test your drive(s) please look out for a tool like HDDlife:

PS: But would be great if you can provide us with some more info Nebon asked for. Thanks a lot for doing so

sorry for not posting enough info guys. I'm running windows XP SP2. I'm not sure what else you need to know. My graphics card is an NVidia fx series. I just think its weirdthat sometimes the problem fixes itself.

Let me ask you a question: Did you run an update for the graphics adapter, if yes, which release? I know that the FX graphics adapter might cause some problems with one release of that update.
