Hi,

My computer has been infected with the Tanatos.M virus and the virus/worm seems to be
going on an infection spree.

The symptoms started first with access to anti-virus websites being down, and task manager/registry
editor becoming unavailable.

I still however managed to download AVG8 (free version) from cnet.com, but soon
after I installed it and rebooted the computer, it detected a number of files with the Tanatos.m
infection and claimed that they could not be healed.

Every few minutes there was a popup with a new set of executables being tagged as infected and
not healable.

Upon the next reboot, the network interface was no longer visible in ipconfig either. I am unable to run
HijackThis or download anything onto the computer. PLEASE HELP!! I am terrified that the virus will
wreck the computer further and have switched it off altogether.

Is there anyway I can use some boot-cd with a virus scanner to get rid of this nasty virus?? What do
I do next? :(

Your choices are limited if you do not have another computer you can use to download. Any bootable CD usable for fixing would require download.

Have you tried rebooting in Safe Mode and running AVG from there?

Do you have a Windows CD or just a Restore Disk, or neither?
