My active desktop is not working and everytime I push the restore my active desktop button I get the following error:

file:///C:/Documents%20and%20Settings/Christopher%20C********/Application%20Data/Microsoft/Internet%20Explorer/Desktop.htt

I have tried deleting the desktop htt as recommended by several articles, but I am still getting the error.

Any suggestions on how to make it stop?
Is this something I should be concerned about?

BTW I astricked out my last name in the above error.

Hi Cristopher,

Do you use IE6 or IE7?

Before it happened, a crash of power failure?

I use IE 7. When I got up this morning it wouldn't come out of sleep mode. Powered down and powerd back up and this was the result. Just reinstalled IE 7 before posting earlier just to be sure. Also deleted the file as that was suggested in an article online. This site has always been my fall back for major issues and viruses. I figured it was the best place to ask for help.

The solution isn't easy, let's give it an easy try.

It can be a screensaver related problem but that is not sure.

Allright, let's assume it is screensaver related:

1. Right click on your desktop
2. Select properties - settings tab
3. Change your screen resolution
4. Confirm by okay
5. Change the screen resolution to the desired setting
6. Confirm by okay

Don't be embarrassed, your problem was a nasty one to solve because there is not a standard solution for it.
Factual, many people are searching for help concerning the same issue and will not always get a satisfying answer.
I gave a first simple shot in the darkness in the hope it would terminate the problem, and i was very lucky i had not to dig further.
