I have tried to install the RC2 of SP3 for XP, it takes forever and then tells me it is unable to find SLIPRT.DLL and then tells me to restart, at which point my machine is basically *u*k** because it just boots to the welcome screen and hangs. Safe Mode is exactly the same. I am virus and trojan free, I can just about post any log you want. I have managed to restore my computer to an earlier poi, the official RCt from the cmd line.

Has anyone else had this problem, do they have a solution?

XP Media Centre, Home Edition, Fully patched MS wise, Bullguard, Spybot S+D, Adaware, Spyware Doctor and just about every registry cleaner in existance, Stinger, HiJackThis, CWShredder, Aboutbuster, Online virus scans, ComboFix, rootkit detectors etc etc, have to no avail shown a problem.

Where can I get SLIPRT.DLL as a download if I need it?

Thank You in advance, I wish You all a Happy New Year, and hope that Xmas wasn't to stressful.

P.S The SP3 download was from MS, the official RC2, not a hotfix sp3 from another site.

Hi peasant

as an awarded Microsoft MVP doubt that you have downloaded XP SP2 RC2 from a Microsoft Server.
This special SP got delivered to MS members only which are doing the beta testings and being pre-chosen from Microsoft.
SP3 in all kind of RCs is hosted on servers, where you never have any access unless you got detailed information how to logon to that server from anybody else.

At one of the last OpenDays all MVPs being present there and involved with the beta tests of XP SP3 are under NDA (non-disclosure agreement).

My advice:
Uninstall that XP SP3 RC2 in the interest of your data at your computer

This is the link I used to download rc3, it is freely available from Microsoft Download Centre, anyone can download it. The file name is
windowsxp-kb936929-sp3-x86-enu.exe. It is in the knowledge base, it was published 18 Dec 2007.

The problem is not rc3, it is SLIPRT.DLL

Cheers, thanks for the input TheSentinel

Hello peasant

sorry about my doubts, but the information I told you was original from Microsoft uhm.gif But I like to learn from everyone to improve my skills friends.gif

To your request iam sorry to say that we don't have any clues where you can get that file. Google offers a lot of entries and that file got marked as a suspicious one for spyware.

A lot of Google's replies for that dll do point to malware,. Hence I spent several days cleaning my system to no avail.

Then, digging deeper into Google, I found out that it is also part of a program called ONSPEED, which I use, now as a proxy server, but before we had broadband it was used to speed up my dial-up connection.

I don't want to lose Onspeed, but would it be better to try the RC3 with Onspeed uninstalled and then to reinstall after installing the RC3?
