Hello - So I've seem to have gotten a virus/trojan/something onto my computer per limewire. Literally hundreds of random program files find their way into a shared folder on my hard drive and I can't bring up my task manager at all. I've found an odd .exe file on my hard drive called "onoes", googled it and found that others have had problems with it as well.
I downloaded current updates and ran both Adaware and Spybot Search&Destroy, but the onoes.exe file is still there. I downloaded and ran hijackthis, saved the log, and here are the results...
please let me know what i can do to get rid of this.... thanks in advance for any help!!

- Check any item with Java Runtime Environment (JRE or J2SE) in the name.
- Click the Remove or Change/Remove button.
- Repeat as many times as necessary to remove each Java version.
- Reboot your computer once all Java components are removed.
- Then from your desktop double-click on the download to install the newest version.

Please download Brute Force Uninstaller to your desktop.
Save it in the same folder you made earlier (c:\BFU).
Do not do anything with these yet!
Reboot your computer into Safe Mode. You can do this by restarting your computer and continually tapping F8 until a menu appears. Highlight Safe Mode and hit enter.
Once in Safe Mode, go to Start > My Computer and navigate to the C:\BFU folder.
Please download Brute Force Uninstaller to your desktop.
- Right click the BFU folder on your desktop, and choose Extract All
- Click "Next"
- In the box to choose where to extract the files to,
- Click "Browse"
- Click on the + sign next to "My Computer"
- Click on "Local Disk (C:) or whatever your primary drive is
- Click "Make New Folder"
- Type in BFU
- Click "Next", and Uncheck the "Show Extracted Files" box and then click "Finish".
Save it in the same folder you made earlier (c:\BFU).
Do not do anything with these yet!
Reboot your computer into Safe Mode. You can do this by restarting your computer and continually tapping F8 until a menu appears. Highlight Safe Mode and hit enter.
Once in Safe Mode, go to Start > My Computer and navigate to the C:\BFU folder.
- Start the Brute Force Uninstaller by doubleclicking BFU.exe
- In the scriptline to execute field type or paste c:\bfu\alcanshorty.bfu
- Press Execute and let it do it's job. (You ought to see a progress bar if you did this correctly.)
- Wait for the complete script execution box to pop up and press OK.
- Press exit to terminate the BFU program.

Run HijackThis, click on "Scan" and check the boxes next to all these items.

Then close all windows, and browsers, except HijackThis. Tell HijackThis to "Fix checked".
Restart your computer in Safe Mode. How do I Safe Boot my computer?
Show hidden files. How do I show hidden files?
At the end if the fix you can return the files to hidden status if you want.
Delete the following folders in red (it could be that they are deleted already):
C:\Program Files\outlook
After the delete run the Alcan fix again. You can find the instructions in my earlier post.
Restart your computer and post a new log in this thread.
Did you execute my instructions? It looks as if Alcan fix didn't help.
Run HijackThis, click on "Scan" and check the boxes next to all these items.
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [outlook] C:\Program Files\outlook\outlook.exe /auto
Then close all windows, and browsers, except HijackThis. Tell HijackThis to "Fix checked".
Restart your computer in Safe Mode. How do I Safe Boot my computer?
Show hidden files. How do I show hidden files?
At the end if the fix you can return the files to hidden status if you want.
Delete the following folders in red (it could be that they are deleted already):
C:\Program Files\outlook
After the delete run the Alcan fix again. You can find the instructions in my earlier post.

I did follow all your instructions the first time I ran the Alcan fix. I also followed instructions from your last post, however there were no folders in red for me to delete.
*Also, I can now call up my task manager again (which was part of my problem before). However, (and I don't know if this has anything to do with the problems I had) the "onoes.exe" file I though was suspicious is still showing up on my hard drive.

The onoes file is bad and we'll deal with it (probably) in the next post. I am going to send you to an online anti-virus program that will show me what else is on the system.Please go HERE to run Panda's
ActiveScan- Once you are on the Panda site click the
button - A new window will open.
- Enter your Country
- Enter your State/Province
- Enter your e-mail address and click send
- Select either Home User or Company
- Click the big
- If it wants to install an ActiveX component allow it
- It will start downloading the files it requires for the scan (Note: It may take a couple of minutes)
- When download is complete, click on
to start the scan - When the scan completes, if anything malicious is detected, click the

This is a good time to set up protection against further attacks. Read the article behind this link "How did I get infected". If you don't already have them, you need an antivirus that is updated, a good firewall for example Kerio Personal Firewall or ZoneLabs Zone Alarm, a spyware blocker like SpywareBlaster and also IE-Spyads and spyware detection (Ad-aware SE and SpyBot S+D). All of these have good free versions available... be very cautious about any security software that advertises in popups or other intrusive ways, they are not only usually useless, but also often have malware in them....
Instead of Internet Explorer, use a different browser like Opera, Mozilla or Firefox.
Last, but not least, you need to keep Windows and Internet Explorer up to date by getting all the latest security patches that protects your computer.
This can be accessed by going to http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com/ and following the prompts. If you are running Windows XP get updated to SP-2
