Hi all,

I created a folder in my documents and hide it from its properties, then under view tab of folder options and clicked "do not show hidden files and folders " and my file disappeared, trying to bring it back i clicked "show hidden files and folders" clicked apply then ok , but my folder is still hidden and still on the left side of my documents reads 20 files (plus one hidden).
I also tried to check back "do not show hidden files and folders" , clicked apply then ok but after reopening the view tab still the "show hidden files and folders " is clicked ?

Does any one know what is happening and how can i show my hidden file back ??

Many thanks !

Hi hankach hello.gif
The idea behind hidden files and folders is to protect the operating system from accidentally deleting system files making the system inoperable. Now the folder you created i presume is empty ? and if it is failing to show that would mean that somehow you have deleted it as all system files will show. Make sure the boxes below that are unticked also such as hide extensions for known file types / hide protected operating system files. In future it is best to use software if you are inexperienced and wish to hide a folder. If you need any further help with some suitable software then please do post back for advice

Go to MY Computer..open it..then go to TOOLS..then folder options..then the View tab....in the advanced setting..under Hidden Files and Folders..put a checkmark on the Show Hidden files and folders...the click the button that says Apply to all folders... then hit the bottom apply button and say OK.

Also know that when you make a folder like that and then in the property attributes hide it..you can still find it if you know the NAME of the folder.. also since by default unless you changed the advanced attributes..it is still indexed for fast searching because you have allowed indexing by the Indexing service by default.

( just make sure you do not turn the Indexing service off..I have mine set to manual..but most people have it set for automatic)

Also go to start..then search.. then files and folder...search your c drive..but before you do this ...click on MORE ADVANCED OPTIONS...then make sure you have check marks in the first three itiems..especially the SEARCH HIDDEN FILES AND FOLDERS.

Reboot as often as u can! As to advises - try deleting Thumbs.db from the folder, containg the one you have problems with. Or even all of them. It sounds more like a "shaman's tambourine method" but it helps sometimes in folder-related problems... Good luck!

What are thums.db?
Nebon
Its a file created by windows, another hidden one. Its created when you set your view to thumbnails. Personally I do not think that would solve the problem, deleting the file.
