Did anybody have experience with hardware disk encryption devices ? What is better to use at home ? Some hardware solutions are cheaper then software but I am not sure if they really are so fast and problem free. I always had problems with software encryption. I have found a product described here http://www.elkom.com.tw/?section=2 but I don’t believe that it is so fast as manufacturer says. The price is suspiciously low as for the strength of the encryption. There are plenty of other such devices out there.
Please advice.

Hi Tom

I want to give you something to think over before using such encryption tools.

What when your system wents down in case of a crash or other malefunctions? How to get your data back?

How stable is such a tool working? Is it proofed to get data back when using emergency tool CDs /DVDs?

And the major question: Do you really need encryption for your data?

I think a software only solution is more reliable - like Truecrypt or Private Disk. Truecrypt is free, but the recent feature of Private Disk outweighs the fact that it is commercial.
Description of Disk firewall feature from vendor's site:
"
* non-trusted applications do not have access to the encrypted drive in the background (this includes viruses, Trojans, spyware, etc)
* you can explicitly control which software can access the encrypted drive."

here is the explanation of encrypted disk firewall feature with graphs http://www.dekart.com/howto/howto_disk_enc.../disk_firewall/
