Hello everyone,
I have a mother board that is rated to handle 1.5 gig of ram and can not get it to read more than 512MB. I went to manufacturer web site and downloaded bios update. I downloaded it in hopes that would fix the problem and alow the OS to read the full memory I have installed (1.5Gb). Everytime I try to install the download I get a message asking how I would like to open the download. It is a .bin file. I am not sure even if this will help in my situation. I am hoping you guys can shed some light on the problem. Thank You!

You don't need to open the .bin file you need to save it to your hdd and then put it on a bootable floppy.

How to flash your bios

Warning

A bad bios flash may make your PC inoperable, make sure you read all the instructions in your mobo manual on how to do it. The above link is a guide only, you need to follow the instructions given by the mobo manufacturer.
