Hi everybody!
I have a Laptop model "emachine M6805" with flickering screen. It seems to be from bad connection. Can somebody guide me through the process of disassembling the laptop, cleaning the connections and reassembling it?

Regards,

Alex

....Finally, is it from bad connection or not, I don’t have any broken hinges???

Did you contact the manufacture for that model and tell them of your problem..did you read the threads I posted...did you buy the laptop new.. how old is it ? it has nothing to do with just a cracked case..they are replacing them and too many have that flicker screen.

Is your problem that you bought this laptop used..and you are not the orginal owner ?

No, I will keep it. The problem is there, even if I send it to emachines for repair, they will change the whole lcd screen and the new one will have a dead pixel if I'm not lucky.
:(

I think who ever sold it on ebay had already been given a replacement machine for that one they sold to you..and the serial number on yours will be recognized by emachine as a replacement given already..but you could find out and ask..send them an email and ask if they will replace or repair it for free...since it is a know problem on that model..

If start flickering more, I will open the screen myself.
Now is flickering only when you open the screen at about 45 degrees, when is 90 degrees open - no problemo, picture is perfect.
I don't want to sell it, is the best laptop for the money.

Do not open the LCD panel.. please. If you are not experienced in removing such displays. That link you're refering to describes hiw to remove an LCD panel of a Dell Latitude C6xx notebook. There are enormous differences of removing panels between the manufactures and vendors of Notebooks!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

When a display is flickering you should try to configure the refreshing rate of the screen and / or try to install a new graphic card device driver first. This is striktly recommended before openin and changing the panel!

Hi The Sentinel!

I'm positive that the flickering of the LCD screen of my Laptop is from loose connection between main board and LCD. When I open the screen at about 45 degrees it flicks and at about 90 degrees stops. The problem is that I don't want to break something. I have experience with desktops, upgrade and fix some by my self but here everything is tiny and no place to see much.

I like very much your review of opening the LCD of the DELL. I wish you opened my model of "emachines" :)

247laptoplcd.
IF lcd is flickering.
following might be reasons.
1. Loose cable connection.
2. Bad transformer,
3. Bad Bulb
4. Bad LCD.

I have a question for the pros:
Which one is best: GERICOM HUMMER 2,8Ghz, 40 G HD, 512 RAM, 128 video, DVDRW and 1 year waranty
or the HP NX9020 1,4 Ghz, 40 G HD, 256 RAM, combo CDRW/DVD, same 1 year waranty?
There's the same price for them, but the manufacturing company differs.
Thanks.

There are several long screws on the underside of the laptop towards the back. These screws hold the plastic strip where the power and quicklaunch buttons are located on. If you remove these, you should be able to pop that plastic piece off and check the cable connection to the motherboard.

I thought that I ought to write because I've just fixed mine. This gives me a head start on most contributers, but I'm afraid that you've got to bite the bullet and get the old screwdriver out.

I removed the facia that surrounds the screen (Advent 5490) by removing the four screws that are under the small rubber blanking plugs and unsnapping it (like the lid of an ice-cream tub). Incidentally I know that you are all aficionados, but if you stick some (it's called Blu Tack in the UK) on the end of your screwdriver you can easily capture the screws after you've undone them.

After I'd taken off the facia I found that the problem had gone away (could pull the lid back and forth and the display remained rock-steady. I found that part of the plastic on the inside of the facia had broken and was probably pressing on the dispaly cable every time that the lid was moved. I trimmed it away with a knife and everything seems OK. I'm sure that they're all different but maybe this will give you a start.

I used this method and it worked.
I was getting really fed up with the flicker, it would take me minutes to reposition the screen until it would stay on.

I found that the wires on the left hand side were coming loose due to the pressure from the faceplate.
I taped them down, fixing the flicker, and ditched the faceplate because it was doing more harm than good.

Note that removing the faceplate is difficult. After removing the screws, you will have to pry the edges off with a screwdriver first, then use a knife to cut through the glue. The last step is popping out the plugs that go into the hinges, which don't actually go in too deep.
